Dendrobium Orchids vs. Dendrobium Orchid Bouquets

In recent years, Dendrobium Orchids have really grown in popularity. We consider them the epitome of ‘affordable elegance’. Dendrobium Orchids are long-lasting flowers and are widely used in bouquets and arrangements of wedding flowers.

We offer various packages of both bulk Dendrobium Orchids and Dendrobium Orchid bouquets.  Before you make your decision on which package to order, please keep the following in mind:

Bulk Dendrobium Orchids: The bulk Dendrobium Orchids are sold in boxes of 60 stems, 120 stems, and 180 stems.  They are packed in bunches of 10 stems.  These Dendrobium Orchids measure about 16 inches in length.  If you stood a ruler on the ground that was 16″ tall, the first 4″ would be the stem and water tube, the next 5″-6″ would be open flowers (usually about 4-5 mature blooms), and the last 5″-6″ would be buds beginning with the most mature to the least mature.

Dendrobium Orchid Bouquets: The Dendrobium Orchid bouquets are available in various sizes (3-stem, 4-stem, and 5-stem bouquets). The Dendrobium Orchid bouquets are packed as bouquets and include 2 shoots of Sword Fern. The Dendrobium Orchids used in these bouquets are a smaller grade Dendrobium Orchid than what you would receive if you ordered a bulk package of Dendrobium Orchids.  The Dendrobium Orchids in the Dendrobium Orchid Bouquets measure between 12″ and 14″ in overall length.

Both the Dendrobium Orchids in bulk and in bouquet form are wildly popular. The purpose of this blog posting is not to point you in one direction or another… but rather to make you aware of the key differences between these products.

Balancing Your Wedding Budget

Yesterday we came across a very neat article titled ‘Your Wedding Budget - 5 Tips to Help You Stick to It‘ by Cori Russell in the American Chronicle. The article offered the following 5 suggestions:

1. ‘Get a budgeting system‘. Create a system whereby you separate your wedding fund from your personal expenditures so that you can easily see what you have spent on your wedding.

2. ‘Prepare to go over‘. Set aside 5 percent of your budget as a ‘just in case’ fund… for those last minute costs that will arise. Some common last minute costs that you may not have considered include: tips for vendors, trial runs for hair and makeup, overtime fees, last minute dress and tux cleaning, marriage license fees and postage for wedding invitations and RSVP notes.

3. ‘Cut back‘. Make it a 3 course meal instead of a 5 course meal. Have 5 bridesmaids instead of 10. Trim down the list of invites.

4. ‘Beware of the up-sell‘. Everyone has something slightly better for slightly more…

5. ‘Tighten your purse strings‘. Try to save a portion of your income specifically for your wedding. Save more and spend less. Create frugal habits that will carry through your marriage and provide you with more financial stability down the road.

Why does the price of packages of wedding flowers with roses increase during the winter time???

The question of why the price our packages of wedding flowers with roses increases during the winter time is one that we receive often. The short and direct answer is because of what is known across the floral industry as ‘the pinch’.

Every November during the last few days of the month, flower farms trim back most, if not all, of their rose bushes (especially bushes that grow varieties of red roses) - this is what is known as ‘the pinch’. They do this so that they can manage 2 harvests of roses in the days and weeks leading up to Valentine’s Day. The economics of it is quite simple… rose prices at Valentine’s Day are at a premium and the more they sell, the more they make.

Rose prices increase immediately following ‘the pinch’. Since the bushes are all trimmed back (again, especially bushes which grow varieties of red roses), there is limited availability of these roses during the months of December and January. Looking back to Economics 101: A lower supply with a higher demand pushes the prices upward.
